Our Story...
Thank you for visiting StroJo Coffee Roasting Company!
StroJo was founded on the belief that rich, smooth coffee is easier to roast than to buy in a store or local coffee shop. The hobby began when I received a small roaster as a Christmas gift. I quickly learned that I had the patience and attention to detail necessary for roasting small batches of coffee. My wife, Corrie, was my first raving fan. By sacrificing a few hours of an evening or two a week, I realized that roasting coffee in my garage allowed me to consistently enjoy great coffee and do something that helped me relax after a long day.
I began sharing ¼ lb samples of the coffee with family, friends and coworkers and quickly started getting requests for my beans. When my 5 year old daughter, Kendall, offered to start decorating the StroJo bags, I knew that we not only had developed a special bond but also the beginnings of a small family business! The StroJo logo incorporates one of her very first writing samples. I soon found myself in the garage more often, (after the kids were asleep) roasting more and more coffee.
It wasn’t until I burned out my first roaster from over-use that I realized that my hobby had become my passion and something I wanted to invest more time to. I bought a new roaster soon after Christmas of 2013. It is a bit larger, but still allowed me to control the roasts and achieve the fresh, smooth, small batch flavor that I became known for.
Thanks to my supportive wife, I now escape to my garage “cave” almost nightly to roast beans. The smell of roasting coffee is intoxicating... even more so than the glass of Scotch I often sip on as I watch the green beans grow dark and crack to perfection. I continue to learn new techniques and enjoy trying coffee beans from all over the world. Kendall still loves to help decorate the bags and her drawings have become increasingly more elaborate. The best part is when my one-year-old daughter, Kyle, tries to say “coffee” when we walk into the kitchen each morning!
As our passion and kids grow, so will our customers.
